Alright I understand how clueless it can be when choosing a place for reunion during Chinese New Year despite making mental notes whenever we come across good restaurants. Thus, this post! May it be with family, classmates, old friends or with colleagues, the selection of lunch and dinner at Silka Hotel, Cheras is bound to please an array of taste buds. A recommendation too for those looking for a graceful atmosphere at a reasonable price.

Salmon Yee Sang |
As
no Chinese New Year dinner would be complete without the traditional ‘toss’ of
‘Yee Sang’ for good luck and prosperity, diners may add on Salmon ‘Yee Sang’ and
choose from either a Full portion (RM88 nett per serving) or Half-portion (RM48
nett per serving). The Salmon Yee Sang is included as part of the Rising
Phoenix and Roar of the Dragon menus.

Hot and Cold Combination (4 types) |
The
Hot and Cold Combination is a product of Chef Lee's creativity and skill. Fish paste with spring onions on lotus roots for example, caught our attention and prepped our expectation to what is lined up after the appetizer.

Braised Seafood with Crab Meat Soup |
|
Braised Seafood with Beancurd Soup |
Braised Seafood with Crab Meat Soup is steeped with the flavours of the ocean and chunky crab meat was a joy to have. The soup has good body and thickness. Spill a little vinegar in it and you will be asking for a second bowl.

Roasted Chicken with Prawn Crackers |
|
Roasted Chicken pairs up very well with Chef Lee's spice powder |
I have to say that the
Roasted Chicken with Prawn Crackers made it to my must-order list. Not only the skin is crackling crispy, the marination is done well, resulting in the chicken's flavourful meat. Notice also a reddish powder that is served with it. All our senses were piqued when we were told to dip the chicken meat into the condiment. It blends surprisingly well with the dish although it was a a tad strange at first!
|
Deep Fried Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce |
Deep Fried Chicken Chop is also a pleasure to have with crispy skin soaked in delicious black pepper sauce. A favourite across all ages!
|
Steamed Red Snapper with Soy Sauce |
|
Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce |
No matter which choice of fish selected, be rest assured of the quality and freshness. The
Steamed Red Snaper with Soy Sauce absorbs the fragrance of soy sauce while the
Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce is appetizingly tangy.

Dark Soy Sauce Baked King Tiger Prawns |
|
Tiger Prawns with Oats |
Prawns are here to guarantee a laughing year ahead (according to Chinese belief). Prawn meat is crunchy with freshness and adequately flavoured with dark soy sauce for that savoury goodness. The aroma of oats is adequately brought out. Although a tad salty outside, the flavour penetrated the prawn shells for the right degree of taste in the prawn meat.

Braised Tau Kan and Mushrooms with Broccoli |
|
Braised Tau Kan with Sliced Mushrooms and Siew Pak Choy |
The vegetable dishes are made with sufficient flavour and cooked to just the right texture. Whether brocolli or pak choy, their vegetable dish will satisfy your appetite for greens.
|
Seafood Fried Rice with Chicken Ham |
I could not resist the smell of fried rice redolent of seafood when they dished out the
Seafood Fried Rice with Chicken Ham. Chunks of chicken ham added articulation to the dish, making even non-rice lovers take double scoops.
|
Longan and Sea Coconut (cold) |
|
Lotus Seed Lily Bulb Red Bean (warm) |
Comforting is the word for their
Lotus Seed Lily Bulb Red Bean. Not too cloying, this blend of red bean soup has the right viscosity. Speckled with lotus seed and lily bulb peels, it does a good job in soothing the soul over a long chat before dismissing the reunion.
