Happiness can be as simple making your beverage your bestie. Although Malaysians are gaining favour for matcha, this emerald coloured drink is still underrated compared to the other more staple beverages like coffee and black tea. While many people cannot live without coffee and black tea, these drinks can be diurectic and disadvantageous to the skin and bones, not to mention addictive. The list of health benefits of drinking matcha was shared to me when I was introduced to Hakuga premium matcha powder. The list left me wishing that I knew the benefits of the oishi (delicious) drink earlier. This anti-oxidant-rich drink has a huge role in preserving beauty and health for men, women, children and even pregnant women.
Hakuga matcha powder originates from Shizuoka Kakegawa Japan, shade-grown and hand-picked in early spring for the most vibrant and tender tea leaves. At the top of the grade spectrum, Hakuga's premium ceremonial grade matcha powder has a clean green flavour with natural sweetness, mellowly tannic with a gentle umami note at the end. It doesn't leave me with jitters like coffee and sleeplessness like black tea does. I learnt how to make matcha latte which is now my new morning beverage!

How to drink matcha ceremonially
- Bow to the host and convey your gratitude to them by saying, “Otemae choudai itashimasu,” or “Thank you for the tea you have prepared.”
- Pick up the bowl with your right hand and place it upon your left hand.
- Show your gratitude by bowing your head slightly.
- Turn the bowl twice until its front is off-center to you. (The host should place the bowl with its front facing the guest. In many instances, there are patterns and designs on it.)
- Drink the tea. Ideally, you should finish the tea in 3 to 4 sips. Slurp the last mouthful. The sound of the slurping will convey how delicious the tea was.
- After finishing the tea, use your right thumb and forefinger to wipe the rim of the bowl where your mouth touched.
- Turn the bowl twice until its front is facing you.
- Place it down gently and say to the host, “Kekkou na otemae deshita,” or “It was very delicious.”
