The softshell crab was crispy to perfection while the salted egg calamari tantalized our taste buds. The Cantonese dry-fried prawns were well seasoned and I have to say that the sweet potato fries were so good that I won't mind ordering it ala carte just for myself.

Staycation at Hilton Garden Inn South Kuala Lumpur

Just next to the ritzy Golden Triangle lies Chow Kit, an unpretentious area of Kuala Lumpur, where traditional shops still thrive. The place is named after Loke Chow Kit, a well-known miner in the days of yore who was also its municipal council. Chow Kit became a notorious part of Kuala Lumpur and stayed in dark shadows until recently when it regained attention from tourists. From rowdy, it has turned its reputation into exuberant. A staycation in this part of the city lets you explore the quaint alleys and rich history of Kuala Lumpur. 

Hilton Garden Inn stands out among the low-rise buildings in Chow Kit. Just a 4 minute walk from the Chow Kit monorail station, any part of Kuala Lumpur is reachable. The Chow Kit wet market is just around the corner where you can avail yourself to the abundant of interesting local food. Popular eateries like Kin Kin Pan Mee and Nasi Kandar Kudu is also within the perimeters of Chow Kit. When evening comes, hope from stall to stall at the Chow Kit night market to challenge your haggling skills. At the Deluxe Room

Hilton Garden Inn's Deluxe room greeted me with an abundance of space. The room exceeded my expectations with a bathroom that qualifies as a bedroom and a stylish curved lounge area teatime. The working space and ironing corner was also allocated at a snug corner. The dream-maker beds were against a pretty mural of poppy flowers that I couldn't stop admiring at. I ensconced myself on the crispfully sheeted bed while enjoyed scrolling my Instagram on the free wifi and occasionally looking up on the 40-inch TV where HBO was playing.

When evening comes, Rooftop at 25 offers a splendid view of glowing Kuala Lumpur. Mee Bandung Raja Laut is a dish worth picking amongst other palatable dishes. Check out my review of other food in the link below:

My favourite thing to do at Rooftop@25 is to absorb the breathtaking KL night scene with both KL tower and Twin Towers in sight while sipping wine. 

The restaurant is open daily from 10:00am – 10:00pm.

After being devoid of such beautiful sight during the Covid-19 lockdown period, returning to Rooftop 25 at Hilton Garden Inn is definitely invigorating. Smack in the middle of Chow Kit, it is still one of the unexpected places to get a breathtaking view of Kuala Lumpur's skyline, having both the Twin Towers and the KL Tower in perspective.

Mee Bandung Raja Laut RM26

The Mee Bandung Raja Laut is Rooftop 25's best selling item among the mains and I can see why. Chef Md. Nor made good use of his grandmother's 35 year-old recipe which tackles many angles of the tastebuds. The prawn broth deserves a thumbs up as it inherits the aromatic flavour from the prawns. The freshness of the prawns and squid is apparent in their crunch and briny sweetness. The chef knows that a humble poached egg eaten with the soup is gratifying. Peanut paste is stealthily added into the equation to give the soup more body. Even the noodle has an impressive bite. This dish managed to win my favour and is recommended.

Pan Fried Salmon Asian Glaze RM44

Combining Japanese and Chinese flavours, the Pan Fried Salmon Asian Glaze is the chef’s very own creation. The salmon is prepared just right with a thick layer or sweet and savoury glaze. Paired with mushroom rice pilaf, this dish makes a satisfying meal. 

Fabulous Cilantro Pasta RM35

The Fabulous Cilantro Pasta will definitely engage the tongue of a herb lover. This pasta dish is actually Thai-inspired. Linguine is tossed with spicy garlic cilantro oil, baby spinach and parmesan served with timely poached seafood. 

Classic Mobley Burger RM34

The Classic Mobley Burger is Hilton Garden Inn’s signature burger. Named after Conrad Hilton’s first hotel, it consists of a homemade patty, Chef’s burger sauce, maple bacon relish and cheese and is served with fries. The patty is seared with juices locked in the sufficiently seasoned patty. This burger fills up the tummy quite efficiently.

Aromatic Ayam Bakar RM28

The Aromatic Ayam Bakar is the first dish the chef attempted to cook when he first started in this industry 15 years ago. Throughout the years, the recipe has evolved. The dish now draws-in two different cooking methods. The homemade sauce features ingredients that accentuates the Malaysian flavour. 

Batu Road Wok Fried Noodles RM24

The Batu Road Fried Noodles too has a special place in the chef’s heart, as it is inspired by his grandfather who owned a hawker stall on Jalan Tar (previously known as Batu Road). Although simple, this charred noodle dish requires skills for that smokey infusion. The plate of rice noodle is complemented with matching seasoned chicken.

Javanese Chilli Fries RM18

Perfect for sharing, the Javanese Chilli Fries is a Western staple converted into a Malaysian snack.  Fries is mixed with tempeh, groundnuts and anchovies fried all together in sambal sauce. A great bite to accompany your beer.
