Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur captured my heart at the first stick of beef satay. I found myself having multiple helpings of it although it would mean extra exercise the next day. It was too good to resist. The skewer of meat, solid without a chunk of fat, barbequed behind the counter till just the right doneness. Every bite was tender, juicy and toothsome with a hint of caramelization sweetness. As I shifted from satay to the roasted lamb, I had to conclude that the chefs behind Renaissance's newly revamped Evolution Cafe have deft hands at cooking meat. Meat from the lamb was soft as butter and had a sexy pink hint no one can say no to.
Renaissance's brilliantly done meat is among the exquisite spread of traditional Malaysian dishes this coming Ramadan. Themed Selera A La Kampung, the culinary team led by Executive Chef Edmund Ng have created an extensive range of kampung (village) delicacies representing the flavours of Malaysia. The menu will feature a selection of hot and cold appetizers, traditional delights, juicy poultry and a variety of delectable desserts.
Enhanced with features of Malaysia's traditional cuisine along with local favorites, the highlights of the buffet will include dishes like rendang Tok Perak, gulai ayam nangka muda Melaka, asam pedas daging tetel, Kajang satay, sup tulang and more. Their seasonal favorites make a comeback to the buffet line, such as lemang bakar, ketupat, gulai kawah and bubur cha cha.
Break your fast with a variety of dates and a wide selection of appetizers from kerabu mangga muda,
kerabu nanas, tauhu sumbat, rojak buah Penang and acar awak before diving into a variety of main dishes.
Taking the center stage with a well-loved favorite that should not be missed is the Lamb ouzi, an especially delightful dish made to be shared amongst loved ones. This unique lamb dish is slow-cooked to achieve a tender and juicy texture and served with roasted nuts, raisins and tomato rice for the ultimate kampung experience.
Staying true to the theme, a selection of classic Penang nyonya dishes from kiam chye boey, crispy pie tee, fried lobak, jiu hoo char, otak-otak and assam prawn will take you a walk down memory lane with nostalgic childhood flavors.
To add more to the selection of the flavorful spread, international favorites include Rogan josh, Saag paneer and Shish kebab should not be missed. Complete your dining experience with a bountiful dessert spread featuring an assortment of local delicacies from musang king durian pulut, durian cheesecake, sago gula Melaka, Nyonya kuih, bubur cha cha, ice kacang and international desserts such as of lychee crème brûlée and mango mousse which will tempt diners to go back for seconds.
