Chinese New Year Buffet Dinner @ Sunway Putra Hotel

Abundance of goodness is what Sunway Putra Hotel's Chinese New Year buffet is all about this year!  Laid along the sides and in the centre of Coffee House, the spread of food is a view of happiness especially during the festive season. If a course meal is not getting anymore exciting for you and your friends, this buffet is something I am ready to recommend for gatherings and reunions this CNY. From seafood to beef and lamb to traditional Chinese cookies, the restaurant satiates a wide variety of appetites.

Gatherings I suppose will never run out of topic here as their dessert department can really be a topic to chatter about. The sweet section is quiet extensive that it can rival the mains. If it can entice sugar-conscious people like yours truely to dig in their desserts first, it is a wonderland for the sweet-toothed. Remember to make your way to the end of the post to check out their Instagram-worthy delights, faboulously created by their award-winning pastry chef.
Wishing for abundance of good comings this Chinese New Year
CNY buffet at Coffee House
The center-spread of the buffet
Food served is a testament of the chef's passion for his work. Every dish is flavoured with quality and a dash of creativity. From the Main course, a must-try are Seafood Barbecued with choices of Tiger Prawns, Squid Head, Herring Fish; Roasted Peking Duck Pizza, Seas Cucumber and Mushroom Stew on Brassica, Wok Fried Prawns with Spicy Special Sauce, Steamed Fish with Superior Soya Sauce, Chinese Black Pepper Beef, Dim Sum, Assorted Sushi Rolls and Grilled Lamb with Mint Pommery Mustard Sauce.
Raw and cold section
Start off with appetizers like sweet baby octopus
The fragrant pandan chicken that had me taking it twice, fun and crispy shrimp wantan and prawn dumpling interestingly skewered with sugar cane
Satisfying meat loaf with brown sauce
Soup up with some nutritious Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Ginseng
Enjoying the variety of food
Sushi prepared by Gen Japanese Restaurant
Not the mediocre fish-on-rice kind of sushi
Main dishes aplenty to keep your hunger at bay
Wok Fried Prawns with Spicy Special Sauce
Juicy and crunchy prawns
We can tell that the kitchen team managed to grasp Chinese cooking skills when the sea cucumber, cooked till sufficiently tender and stewed with mushrooms, gains approval.
Spagetti the Asian way of course!
Grilled Lamb with Mint Pommery Mustard
Pan Sea Chicken with Mushroom Ragout Sauce
Live cooking at the seafood corner
The dessert corner is a spectacle on its own with dainty Chinese themed decorations that makes them all nearly impossible to resist. The adornment on each platter mirrors the heart and devotion the chef has pours into his creations. Other than presentation, I must say that I am fascinated with the creativity of novelty recipes and flavours that the chef came up with. I was really pleased that all the desserts were not overly sweet and just the right level to tantalize the taste buds.

Do not take brown cakes here for granted as chocolate, neither should pink cakes be assumed as strawberry flavoured. Among the creations that proves their resourcefulness are Lime Chocolate Velvet (refreshing!), Green Tea Red Bean Choc Cake (traditional yet novelty), Ginger Chocolate Cheese Cake (impressed!) and Coconut Jelly Palm Sugar (best of tropical products).
Enjoy the sticky rice cake (nian gao) on its own. Chew slowly to absorb the fragrance of brown sugar
So inviting
Pretty dainty little darlings that are so easy to eat
Good dining is when the eyes feasts too! The decoration is well thought out
Spoilt for choice
Red Dragon Layer Cake
Emerald macha mousse in cup-shaped chocolate topped with a pretty flower.
Even the manliest guy in the room would pick it.
Tastes as good as it looks
Chinese New Year cookies for you to chat and catch up over
Chinese traditional cakes and biscuits
Bread pudding
Refresh with tropical fruits
Wash your palette with some fruits of your choice

Twin Prosperity Yee Sang with Salmon and Whitebait
Lou ah! Huat ah!
A Chinese New Year meal is never complete without the Yee Sang. Understanding the strong demand of this dish, the Dynasty offers 6 variations of the Yee Sang so that you can toss with merriment to your favourite ingredient. Remember to learn up some felicitous phrases to bless the food while you toss it up high ignoring the aftermath. And then, gobble up the luck all together.

A hearty bowl of soup always warms the stomach well
Braised dried seafood soup with crab meat, scallop and sliced abalone
As a prelude for the gut, a bowl of nutritious soup is close to compulsory in Chinese dining. The seafood soup inherited the savoury essence from premium ingredients like crab meat, scallop and abalone with enjoyable bites from strands of enoki.

Poached farm chicken with Kwai Fei abalone in superior stock
Chicken has always been on the table of a Chinese New Year dinner as the village people of the olden days considered chicken as a luxury. Chicken used in this menu is of the free-range variety. The mothod of poaching ensures that the smooth texture of the chicken is preserved. Basted with superior stock that has abalone in it, this is a toothsome one.

Sauteed fresh prawns with Chinese herbs
Live the rest of the year laughing as you receive many happy returns by eating prawns (ha in Cantonese) The crunchiness of the prawn meat speaks volumes of its freshness and the sweetness of the herbed soup made me tip the bowl for the last drop.

Sun-dried oyster with black moss, flower mushrooms and vegetables
This dish surrounded by florets of broccoli is mouth-watering goodness. As if sun-dried oysters are not enough to satisfy the palate, mushrooms and black moss are thrown into the equation for an ambrosial experience.

Steamed sea grouper in premium home-made soy sauce
Swimming in premium soy sauce, the steamed sea grouper displays intrinsic tastiness. Without complex seasoning, this dish kept my chopstick picking the meat to the bones.

Steamed lotus leaf rice with dried scallop
Rice is always the penultimate dish in Chinese dinners and very often skipped due to the growing carb-conscious society. But when it comes to this dish in Dynasty, I'd say eat it anyway! Their steamed lotus leaf rice with dried scallop is packed with earthy fragrance from the lotus leaf. The rice is also layered with flavours from the scallop and seasoning which surprisingly managed to make my appetite surface despite all the dishes before it.

Double-boiled dried sugar cane with peanut, fungus and pear
Dynasty fortune pastries
The sweet-toothed who awaits the dessert will not be disappointed. Traditional is the theme of the desserts with double-boiled sugar cane soup with peanut, fungus and pear and also sticky rice cake rolled in coconut shavings. Lotus paste enveloped in snow skin in the form of a rose is also served and best washed down with some Chinese tea over a relaxed conversation.
