Give A Child A Christmas Gift with Sunway's Giving Truck

A journey of giving and bringing extra cheer in a roving truck filled with more than 1,500 children’s wishes. Malaysian conglomerate, Sunway Group has rolled out its giving truck, just in time as the year-end approaches and the Klang Valley community gets into the holiday spirit.

 A brainchild of the Sunway Group, the “Celebrate Giving with Sunway” project is part of Sunway Group’s sustainabilty initiatives under the #SunwayforGood banner.

The wish-fulfilling truck, which is supported by Sunway Pals, Fujifilm, Parkson and AEON will tour around Klang Valley, so that citizens can participate in the gifting. Fashioned as a giant gift wrapped in red, the truck carries more than 1,500 wishes of the children from thirty welfare homes in the Klang Valley.

Right up to December 15, members of the public who would like to send their heartfelt messages to these children and help make their holiday dreams come true can look out for the #SunwayforGood truck which will be roving around the Klang Valley from 11 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 12 pm to 8 pm on weekends. Once a donation is made, the benefactor will have a picture taken and the gift will be sent to the child along with a personalised holiday wish and message. Beneficiary homes for this project include Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim Berkat Kasih, Good Samaritan Homes, St Barnabas Home and Community Centre, Rumah KIDS, Pusat Jagaan Rumah Kebajikan Calvary Land, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rumah Sayangan, Rainbow Home, Persatuan Pure Life, Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Victory Malaysia, House of Joy, Ti Ratana Welfare Society, Rumah Charis, Desa Amal Jireh, Rumah Amal Cheshire, Rumah Ilham, Agathians Shelter, Rumah Hope, Shelter Home for Children, Rumah Ozanam Boy’s Home, Praise Emmanuel Home, Compassion Home, Rumah Kasih, Pusat Jagaan Siddhartan, Rumah Kanak Kanak Trinity, Rumah Kanak Kanak Impian and Rumah Keluarga Kami.

“For the project, each child was asked to pick something he or she wished for across five categories ranging from school necessities, sporting equipment, household goods to toys. Come December, these children will have the opportunity to enjoy themselves and have their wish fulfilled by the generous public,” explained Sunway Group Brand Marketing and Communications Senior General Manager Jane Poh.

#SunwayforGood initiatives has reached out to 40,000 beneficiaries this year alone. Sunway aims to be able to reach 50,000 beneficiaries by the end of 2019.

Needy Kids Treated To “Dreaming Of A White Christmas” by Lot 10

About 18 children from Charwiki, a non-profit organisation based in Kuala Lumpur were treated for a fun day out at the Christmas Creative Workshops organised by Lot 10. With the themed “Dreaming Of A White Christmas”, the children captivated with beautiful decoration of white Christmas trees decked out in sparkling fairy lights and glittering baubles at the Concourse and the Main Entrance of the mall. They were also entertained by carolers and treated to a high tea at Blues & Bees outlet at the mall.

The event was part of the mall’s corporate social responsibility initiative to spread Christmas cheer to share the festive joy to the less fortunate. Shoppers also participated in this charity initiative when they shop for charity at We.Women Market held from 5 th – 9 th December 2018 at the Concourse. All proceeds from the sale were channeled to help the underprivileged children to buy school supplies and uniforms.

The mall has lined up attractive activities throughout the month of December as to celebrate the festive season. My Christmas experience at Sai Pandian Home

If there is one thing that I could fill a home with, it would be with words. Powerful words of that uplifts the spirit at every corner of the house. Nuggets of inspiration that is more potent than the smell of coffee in the morning. I didn't have to scribble the walls of Sai Pandian Home to make that happen. All they needed were mugs!

Sai Pandian Home in Setia Alam is refuge to 22 children, 3 single mothers and 2 old folks. With a family that large, mugs can be great bearers of positive words as they stir their beverages wherever they are at home. Imagine seeing your brother's mug of Milo with the words "I can do it!" on the day of your exam or catching a glimpse of the words "Don't give up!" on the day you did not do well. Those words could just be the thing that save your soul. Creating such mugs was the perfect task for Printcious, a company who specializes in personlized gifts.

In the spirit of giving during Christmas, Printcious and I have collaborated to share happiness and joy with the residents of Sai Pandian Home. Out of items like pillow cases, t-shirts, jigsaw puzzles, mousepads and decorative tiles, we decided on specially printed mugs personalized with photographs, names and specially picked motivational quotes. On Christmas eve, my friends and I marched to the home in Setia Alam to present the meaningful gifts to them, not knowing that an even bigger present was waiting for us. Read on to know what it is!

As we slough through our daily routine, we build barriers that make us hostile. As much as we want to uphold the righteousness we were taught to have, sometimes we hide away our kindness to battle on and survive. This was an opportunity for us to sweep all our indecency away and to be reminded that love and kindness has always been the right way.

Street Feeding with Air Asia @ Kuala Lumpur

While you are complaining that the food in front of you is 'sucky', there are children who are crying for another scoop of porridge...just for one more scoop.

While you are deriding that person with that 'entry level' branded bag, some are searching the dustbins for torn bags to repair so that their children can carry books to school.

As cliche as it may sound, we won't know how blessed we are until we meet them. As we curse the rainy day for drenching us but still having a hot shower that we can turn on, we will never know how it feels like living on the streets. If you feel the pain of keeping afloat in the rat race, imagine survival for them, keeping track of every ringgit. And when health issues come visiting, they surrender to the humanity of the public.

Every person you see on the streets has a story of their own

Our guests that evening are just like you and I- want nice clothes, want comfortable house, want nice car and never want to be hungry. But what makes us feel entitled to so much more than them? Did we work harder? Did we study more? Is it because we were born with better looks? Or were they born with just that simple, explainable lack of luck?

Air Asia did a wonderful job in helping NGO Need to Feed the Need to reach out to the less fortunate in Kuala Lumpur. Meals, goody bags, hair cut and manicure were offered to alleviate, in any way, their struggles to make ends meet. You will never know how your warm smile or friendly handshake can strengthen their faith in life again.

If you are a believer that fate is in your hands. I believe, you cannot truely control everything in life. Every one strived at one point of their life. Every one tried their best in life to live better. Being part of the urban poor is definitely not their aim. Yes, people make decisions in their lives and repercussions come out of them. We think we can make better decisions and plans but in the end, we will never know how we will end up in the future too.
