Fatboi Tavern at Solaris

It was 3 hours after we stepped foot into Fatboi Tavern and the attendance of our group of friends was still full. Nobody left even after the soiled plates were collected. Our drinks remained though. How could we leave when the atmosphere is so comfortable with affordable food and drinks?

With a wide selection of drinks and a menu of palatable dishes, this bar easily turns into one's favourite even at the first visit. It is no surprise that guests become friends at Fatboi's.

The Crab Factory @ SS2

There are almost 6500 types of crabs in the world and more than half of those can be eaten. In The Crab Factory alone, you can find 4 kinds of crabs cooked in 4 different sauces 7 interesting sauces now! The famous Crab Factory situated in SS2 where no Petaling Jaya dwellers can miss now has added 3 more sauce flavours in the menu that are more Asian orientated for patrons to enjoy- Spicy Plum, Creamy Lemak and Thai Sambal!

Usher in the New Year 2017 with Jumbo Japanese Sweet Prawns which are on 30% discount until 31st January 2017.
Ready to attack!
The Crab Factory at SS2 which no PJ dwellers can miss
Jumbo Japanese Sweet Prawns in Spicy Plum
These jumbo prawns are also called Amaebi RM59/300g and RM90/500g
Amaebi is the Japanese word for these Jumbo Japanese Sweet Prawns. These Japanese darlings aptly matches the Spicy Plum sauce that brings out the sweetness of the prawns. The translucent sweet, sour and slightly spicy sauce makes the crunchy prawns more appetizing. Sucking the heads of the prawns to savour the sauce is definitely expected of you. The Jumbo Japanese Sweet Prawns (Amaebi) are on 30% off till 31st Jan 2017.

White Prawns in Creamy Lemak sauce
RM39/300g and  RM55/500g
Although the name Creamy Lemak sounds heavy, this sauce is piquant with the fragrance of curry leaves which gives the dish an uplifting taste. Creamy Lemak is recommended with white prawns as how they are suited in curry. Creaminess gives it a satisfying after taste. Approach this sauce with some planning as the cream can be quite filling.

Yabbies in Thai Sambal sauce
RM52/300g and RM83/500g
The Thai Sambal sauce is for those who cannot live without the 'kick' of Malaysian flavour. The Thai department contributes to its tangyness amidst the spiciness of sambal. The presence of local spices are prominent and suitable with any crustaceans. My choice for the evening, yabbies because according to The Crab Factory fun fact sheet, they are near zero fat and cholesterol!

Seafood Set Meat Crab in mild Signature Southern Bang sauce
RM175 per set (for 2 people)
Meat Crab in medium Signature Southern Bang sauce
L size (600g-700g) RM120/ kg
Of course I did not miss their signature sauce the Signature Southern Bang in mild and medium. The good old Louisiana taste which blends all sweet, sour, salty and spicy garners some regular fans. The unique taste is exclusive to The Crab Factory and guarantees finger and shell-licking experiences. Other existing sauces are Zesty Lemon, Garlic Butter and Jamba- Jamba (tomato base)

Clockwise from top left: Shallot Rice RM5.00
Homemade Garlic Bread RM8.90
Fried Enoki Mushrooms RM8.90
Mini Mantau RM9.00
Articulate your seafood experience also with their side dishes that are given equal attention in the kitchen. Their shallot rice is fragrant and like the mini man tau (chinese bun), lets you relish every bit of the sauce before they roll away those paper on the tables. The Fried Enoki (golden needle mushroom) is something that I would order again. Fried in well seasoned batter, the savoury strands are fun to eat especially when dipped with sauce... any sauce of your choice!
Cannot resist the literal spread on the table. The BIP is essential
The Crab Factory serves scrumptious crustaceans
I noticed that this restaurant not only fills up patrons' bellies but also hearts. At the sides of the restaurant, there are random props and placards that are free to be used for your photo sessions so that you have fun clickin' while you are crackin' those shells!

There are placards and props all around the restaurant for your photo pleasure

Saving Angel the Dog with Petsmore @ SS2

BEWARE of puppies! There is an intangible force in those furballs that makes many people think that they are animal lovers when they are actually a lot lesser than that. How can they qualify as animal lovers if they start to abandon their dog once their pet is no longer a puppy. I know these people exist but I never felt this strong about this despicable act until I encountered Angel...or rather, when Angel found me.
Angel abandoned by her owner
Angel's owner is one of those sharing the same neighbourhood with me. I used to see her play with her owner since she was brought back as a baby. But as a year passed, the sandpit on the streets becomes the most frequent place I see her. Her fine white fur is always clustered by mud and matter that could possibly be faeces. Often too I see her locked out of her own home leaving her scratching the gates for food.
Desperately in need of a bath
Even if my eyes could bear such a sight, my conscience cannot. I decided to save this Maltese and adopted her. She was not well and needed fixing. I was not alone in this quest. With me was my like-minded sister, my compassionate boyfriend and one of the largest pet suppliers in Malaysia, Petsmore.
Fur all tangled and smelly waiting for her turn at the Petsmore grooming room
I arranged basic grooming for this poor dog at Petsmore SS2 so that she could regain her worth. Angel's condition was so bad that basic grooming was insufficient. Furfurry Academy's groomers advised that Angel developed skin problem due to her tangled and scruffy fur. Her pile of fuzz had to be shaven off. If not, that trip would be futile. So she was upgraded to full grooming.
Basic grooming price range. Basic grooming package worth RM2340 for 52 sessions (RM45 per session)
Petsmore's groomers are not only specialized and friendly, their kindness and concern was obvious- an attribute that only pure animal lovers can display. Through the window, we observed that every dog was treated with care and love as if they were the groomers' own. The grooming facility was well ventilated and clean with of course the most professional pet equipment. Service was commendable.

Petsmore was so generous to treat Angel to one night stay at their Pet Hotel! Clean rooms, good ventilation, timely food and fresh water, I believe, was heaven to Angel compared to the agony she has been through being abandoned for the past few months. We knew we left shaggy Angel in good hands although we didn't know what to expect the next day.
We decided to give Angel a treat and checked her in Petsmores Pet Hotel
TADAA!!
The next morning, my boyfriend and I woke up eagerly. We were going to pick Angel from her hotel! When she was carried to us, we could barely recognize her! She was so clean and smelt good. All those dirty fur was gone, leaving a short and neat coat of hair.

How can they abandon such an adorable creature?

That day, Angel met many dogs that were much luckier than her. Loving human beings who are willing to care for their dogs as their precious family member gathered for the Yes I'm Beautiful (YIB) Contest prize giving ceremony. As she was busy leaping for her treat, I felt sad for Angel that her owner was not committed enough.

My boyfriend and I took the responsibility to make a difference in that adorable dog's life. She will have shelter again and be our little angel. I am sure that there are millions of animals suffering the same fate or even worse. The least you can do, is not adding to that growing number by not bringing home a pet if you are not committed enough.

To those who are considering having pets because you think you "fell in love" with the puppy at the pet store, think again!

Having a pet is a serious responsibility. As rewarding as I would like to say having a pet is, it is as much work as caring for another family member.

Be responsible and do not abandon your pets!

A week later, Angel's skin condition improved and she was much happier.

Special thanks to Petsmore for sponsoring Angel's grooming in efforts to save this Maltese.

Molten Salted Egg Yolk Croissant Frenzy from Le Bread Days Cafe @ SS2

I had enough! What is all this hype about the molten salted egg yolk croissant?! What spell has this bread casted on the people that caused so much chaos and hype. This is definitely no ordinary situation. The dough that could command people to queue, quarrel and talk incessantly about it. I nearly died of curiosity. Thus, I became one of them on that faithful Saturday.

I had to try the much talked about Molten
Le Bread Days Cafe shot to stardom in such an instant with its croissants until it was apparently too overwhelming for them to manage. I am not sure whether Rebecca Saw's post made it popular or Rebecca reviewed it BECAUSE it is already popular.

When they first became famous, they were quite fickle with the time they bring out their batches unleashing an uproar of dissatisfaction among about-to-be patrons. They ended up empty handed as the bread was (and still is) always sold out and people did not know when to catch it.
The line spans up to 2 shoplots
The bakery must have groped their way to be more organized by establishing a system. Croissants come out at a fixed time now- 11:30am and 3:30pm. A waitress would match names and their orders (maximum 4 croissants per person) while they queue. Customers who came just for the Molten would have to wait outside. I look at the line with envy and admiration. The line was 2 shoplots long. From the photo, it would be until 7-Eleven. How I wish I had a line like that queuing for whatever I will be selling! I arrived at 11am and I was number 8 in line while my sidekick was number 9.
The croissants are out only at 11.30am and 3.00pm daily
Inside the cafe, it was a little crowded. If you are planning to go to the cafe for a sit-down visit, remember to avoid the table near the back counter at 11-ish and 3-ish. You will not able to eat in peace. In fact, the customer had to relocate to another table for fear of being squished.
The crowd in the cafe, all waiting for their turns to collect their bread
After paying, we loitered at the back counter and waited for our names to be called. The celebrity bread came out and all were full of anticipation and cannot wait to sink our teeth into the croissants. Will it really be THAT GOOD? Is it overrated? Will it be worth my 1-hour queue? I wouldn't mind making bread if my business is THIS GOOD!
The celebrity bread, freshly out of oven at RM6.90 each before GST, RM7.30 after GST
I wouldn't mind making bread if my business is as overwhelming as this
My sidekick and I got 4 croissants each. Well, it was not that we were influenced. We were not planning to use all the time and effort just to get one each!
My sidekick and I got 4 breads each
At last! There was nothing in between me and the croissant. I lodged myself at a coffeeshop with a clear and unbiased mind. There was no sign of salted egg yolk at my first bite. The croissant itself did not disappoint! It was crispy and flakey on the outside. Inside, it was tissue soft and had an appetizing buttery fragrance. On top, there were sprinkles of a mixture of butter and sugar which gave it a pleasant crunch.
Crispy on the outside and molten on the inside
When I got to the core, I immediately could recognize that I reached the heavenly part! The filling was piping hot and redolent of the popular flavour. It was creamy and rich with a good balance of sweet and salty. There was just the right amount of salted egg. The runny filling was part of its luscious texture as it is not too thick. It will tease you by flowing all over your mouth and hands. The combination of the pastry and molten filling in a bite will launch you to bliss for a moment.
"No wonder the queue," my sidekick concluded.

I'd like to ask a variation of a question I saw on the web:

Are you willing to line up for the croissant?
A. Definitely
B. Can I pay someone to do it?
C. No. I'll wait for the hype to die down

Which is your answer?
