The Sub-zero Challenge in Snow World @ Resorts World Genting

Living in Malaysia, our definition of cold would most probably be what our office temperature is which barely scratch the surface of what winter is. To submerge ourselves in what our European friends experience every winter without buying a plane ticket, a visit to Snow World in Resorts World Genting will do!

Just as when I thought I am better prepared in encountering the cold on my second visit to Snow World, the giant ice chamber proved me wrong. Every sense of my being were shocked. It was excitement out of the comfort zone but thrilling. Of course, my mind was already in the Swiss Alps while I posed for photographs in the charming interiors of, what we like to think, where Santa lives.

With gritted teeth and numb fingers, I threw snow, made snow angles and danced in -7 degC

Some members of the media participated in Genting's Sub-zero challenge. The rules were simple- stay in Snow World for as long as possible with only a single layer of clothing under the standard jacket, boots and gloves provided.

Just when we thought the challenge can filter the champion over time, many contenders were still seen standing after 3 hours! The challenge was then upped by having their jackets and gloves taken off! Before being frozen meat, a champion rose after 3 hours 20 minutes. Congratulations to Ariel Koh!

Snow World was first opened in 2003 but closed down in 2011 to undergo a major revamp that cost
RM15 million. It opened again on 31 st August 2013 with an expansion to fit 250 visitors in the snow
chamber per slot, making it the largest snow attraction it Malaysia. The revamped Snow World is a
European Winter Wonderland that spans an area of 22,800 square feet. There is also so much more than just snow, with the 3D trick art and props spread around in the freezing chamber.

Imaginatricks @ Resorts World Genting

I was at the edge of my seat, digging my nails into the flesh of my palms and gritting my teeth. Happening just a few meters away from me, I couldn’t blink a second. The daredevils of Imaginatricks blew our minds with their death-defying stunts, inducing cardiac jolts along the way.

The show is more that what its name suggests. Imaginatricks is beyond imagination and did not seem so much of a trickery. It gels together a show that is glossed by dance, punctuated by singing, and blended with acrobats and stunts that pushes human’s limitations. Engineering know-how is also part of the recipe of this ovation-worthy show.

Popular depiction of basketball usually centres around the United States of America, but the sport is also incredibly popular in Central and Eastern Europe. Hailing from Hungary is Face Team, the world’s first and only acrobatic sports theatre. Formed in 2004 and reaching the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent Series 6, the Guinness World Record-achieving basketball acrobatic team is sending Bálint Huszár, Ádám Gyujtó, Kerim Daghistani, Talán Tóth, Dénes Martsa and Tamás Felföldi for the Imaginatricks show at Resorts World Genting. With their history in NBA and FIBA events, as well as international theatrical festivals, Face Team will be performing a choreographed set showing off their acrobatic slam dunk and freestyle basket juggling skills set to a rocking, pumping soundtrack.

Ukrainian comedian Oleksii Krasnykh is a graduate of the Variety and Circus Academy of Ukraine in Kiev, Krasnykh won the Grand Prix of international clown festival Comediada in 2015 and is renowned for his amazing talent in pantomime and sound imitation. Having travelled the world with his one man show ‘Superstar’, Krasnykh now joins the cast of Imaginatricks as the resident clown, entertaining audiences with a comedy sketch routine whose appeal transcends language and geographical barriers.

The Gerlings exhibits their daring face 

From the sultry continent of Latin America comes a death-defying performance. Hailing from Colombia, the award-winning acrobatic Gerlings troupe brings miracles high above the stage with an amazing Highwire act. Twelve members of the troupe will take to the sky high above the Genting International Showroom stage, preparing to performs feats like running, dancing, jumping, rope skipping, bicycle riding, chair balancing or – most astounding of all – a balancing human pyramid on nothing by a thin wire. It will be breath-taking, it will be startling and it will be astonishing to see what the acrobats of The Gerlings can do… which is a testament to the limits of human physical achievement, willpower and imagination.

And finally, the audience should continue to look up as The Gerlings regroup with their Wheel of Suspense show to IMAGINATRICKs. Four members of The Gerlings will risk their lives to showcase impossible features on a rolling double-wheel contraption called the Wheel of Suspense, balancing themselves precariously on rotating thin strips of metals while performing jumps, cartwheels, somersaults, handstands and more. It is an act that has won The Gerlings gold medals at the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival and the Wujiao International Circus Festival in 2017 (among many other awards), and the perfect cap off to an amazing night.

Skating onto the stage next will be ice skaters Aleksander Popov and Elena Efaeva. Former Junior Champion Popov and Efaeva have both represented Russia on an international level at global ice-skating championships with skills that have amazed audiences worldwide. Together, they have devised a beautiful and passionate Ice Skating Adagio routine for Imaginatricks that is equal parts poetically beguiling and technically demanding.

Imaginatricks is produced by Agosta Artist Co, directed by Abraham Kostanian and his multi-talented creative team. The Russian production company has over 35-years-experience in international show production, aiming to combine classic theatre, French cabaret, unique artistic skills and advanced technical tricks to take audience to a new reality. Agosta Artist Co’s track record including performing at the biggest theatres in Europe, Asia and the Pacific and its latest show Imaginatricks is a tour de force of international acts, an original soundtrack, live music, dance, magic and ice skating.

Imaginatricks  will run over 360 shows of 75 minutes each from 25 May 2019 to 24 May 2020. Tickets are priced at RM196 (Preferred), RM146 (PS1) and RM96 (Gallery). An additional processing fee of RM4.00 applies. GRC (Genting Rewards Card) members enjoy a standard 10% discount via cash, credit card or Genting Points redemption.

Resorts World Genting is also offering special Imaginatricks room packages. For First World Hotel, the package for a Standard room is priced at RM339 on weekdays and RM371 on weekends, including 2xPS1 tickets for the show.

The Smurfs Live On Stage @ Resorts World Genting

Be your kid's favourite parent/ aunty/ uncle/ bigger sister/ brother by bringing them to The Smurfs Live On Stage at Resorts World Genting. Why? Because if even I was singing to the Smurf tune whenever the La La song is on, your children will be dancing to it! I was even blue to the occasion that evening with my favourite blue dress.

The child in me just found her way out by shaking my head from side to side with a cheer that I could not contain when the blue beings marched out on the stage. It instantly chased all the blue I accumulated from the week. It is always happy spring time when these white-hatted blue Smurfs appear. I must say that the musical is articulately played by actors with wonderful voices that made songs delivered live literally music to the ear . The show disseminates positive messages about friendship, teamwork and care for the environment.

“This year is the Smurfs’ 60^th anniversary, as they were born in 1958,” says Nick Larkin, producer of the show. “It took many, many years of meetings, approvals, designing and planning to bring this show to life, but it was worth it in the end. The play was interactive with actors drawing reaction from the crowd to complete the scene. The audience were seen happily offering their response by answering unanimously and waving their hands in the air.

Directed by John Rowe and choreographed by Katie Kermond, of Millennium Entertainment International, ‘The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring’ presents an original story about the Smurfs’ favourite time of the year – spring. As the village prepares for their much-awaited Spring Parade, their perennial nemesis – the evil Gargamel – plots to disrupt the festivities with another one of his wicked plans. The Smurfs will have to work together to battle Gargamel and save Mother Nature, brought to life by the talented actors of this long-running touring production.

Tickets for ‘The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring’ at Resorts World Genting are priced at RM176 (VIP), RM136 (PS1) and RM96 (PS2), excluding RM4 processing fees.

Thirteen Snoopies of different citizenship surround the majestic 20-foot high Christmas tree backdropped by a four-storey high LED screen. The ceiling comes to live with a stunning show with its audio, visual and motion graphics that features 1001 winch balls. The production of this Christmas edition costs over RM500,000 surely adds to the buzz and boost up the spirit of Christmas. 

Awe at the amazing winch-ball show which is the largest permanent winch installation in Asia. Don't be shy to whip out your cameras for recording as you will find everyone doing the same. A testimony that it is too good to be missed. Watch out for the jaw literally dropping!

From 1st December until 31st December, besides the Genting Spectacular SkySymphony Christmas Show at every 2-hour interval, there will be three other stories namely The Forest, Urban Symphony and The Goddess being showed every hourly after each Christmas show. Show starts from 10 am to midnight daily.

The larger-than-life 6m inflatable Snoopy Santa

Along with festive icons including Santa Claus, eleves and santarinas, Snoopy and Charlie Brown will take to the streets and go on parade. The colourful characters complete with Christmas tree floats will meet and greet visitors as they spread festive cheer at Level 1, SkyAvenue daily from 11.00 am to 11.30 am, 3.00 pm to 3.30 pm and 8.00 pm to 8.30 pm.
