MTV World Stage 2015 @ Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach

The most anticipated event of the year had finally arrived. The thought that has been playing in my mind for weeks was finally happening. It is the...
baybehhhh!!!

I remember the last few hours jamming towards Sunway Lagoon were anxious moments. Will I get a parking in time? Is the Surf Beach already flooded with people? What should I eat before the concert? See survival tips when going for an MTV concert here.

The biggest party of the year features world class performers Jason Derulo, Carly Rae Jepsen, A Pink and Sekai No Owari. Malaysians also voted for their local representative Stacy Angie to rock the MTV platform. Approximately 20 000 fans gathered at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon on Saturday night 12th September 2015. Hard core fans committed to queue from as early as 7:30 am. Yes AM! Gates were open at 4:30pm while show starts 10 minutes after 7:30pm.

Continuing the stellar show, Sekai No Owari made their MTV World Stage debut to thousands of fans, excited to see them perform for the first time in South East Asia. I got hooked with the cadence of Anti-Hero. The Japanese band’s third track, Death Disco was both a musical and visual sensation for fans with mesmerizing 3D laser orbs lighting the stage in tandem to the band’s unique musical expression. Sekai No Owari also transported fans to another world with an ethereal rendition of SOS. They ended their appearance with Dragon Night which included an accordion and a banjo in their instrumental mix.

The baton was then passed on to K-pop sensation A Pink who made their MTV World Stage entrance in true superstar style as they were elevated onto the stage to perform their first of 4 tracks No No No. Confetti-filled giant balls were released to the sea of people and made the party even more sensational. They wowed the crowd with their synchronized move in LUV. Throughout their set, the girls interacted with the audience showing their sweet and girly side. The Korean stars wrapped up their act with a rousing performance of Remember as an impressive display of confetti was released into the night sky. The all-girl group got even the guy beside me singing to the exact Korean lyrics!

Multi-platinum, Grammy nominated singer-songwriter pranced on the stage in a flowy knee-length baby blue dress. Carly Rae Jepsen made her Malaysian debut to a sea of cheering fans, performing Run Away With Me from her new album E.MO.TION. The Canadian pop sensation’s fun and bubbly side shone through with bubbles released from the stage. Jepsen continued the set with a breathtaking performance of E.MO.TION. We all knew the special call was coming sooner or later. Energy levels surged when it came to the chart topper Call Me Maybe. It was really really really really really really an experience to remember singing I Really Like You with 20000 other people.

We waited for a good 30 minutes before the big guy came onstage. The crowd repeatedly called out "Jason" in unison. But, it was all worth it when Jason Derulo appeared from below the stage cladded all in white, showing off his buff physique. The crowd roared as DJ Joe Murphy appeared on stage in a Harimau Malaya jersey. Derulo’s energetic performance comprising a 14-track medley had the crowd rocking to the beat of his music starting with In My Head. A shower of glittering flames lit up the stage as Derulo continued his act with a series of impressive dance moves, bringing the crowds energy levels to its peak. Derulo was just a about 100m from me and glistening with sweat.

I swooned to the popular track Marry Me in the hands of my boyfriend. Derulo took a break to chat with fans about dreams coming true. This was his second trip to Malaysia and during the first trip, he was only singing in malls. He inspired then to dream big, revealing the meaning behind Cheyenne. Derulo also performed the global favourite Want To Want Me. As the night came close to the end, Derulo had some fun teaching the audience some of the moves to his song Pull Up. The set closed with a spectacular show of fireworks and stunning display of lights, a fitting end to a spectacular night.
